Recently I completed a round of campus visits to discuss the state of the University and a vision for the future that includes more fully integrating the seven universities, better positioning us to serve our students and the state. Under the Board of Trustees’ direction, over the past year the presidents and I have been engaged in developing a set of strategic outcomes to encompass this vision that builds on and encompasses the Goals & Actions the Board established in January 2012. At this week’s meeting of Trustees I outlined the contents of this outcomes document and am pleased to share it with you today in draft form.

The 2014 Board of Trustees Strategic Outcomes establishes outcomes through which the Board directs its vision using our mission categories of Education, Research & Economic Development, and Public Service. How we implement plans and strategies to achieve these outcomes will be our collective work in the coming period.

In addition to sharing this draft Strategic Outcomes document with you, we have another draft document which focuses on one of the major targets identified—an Academic Portfolio Review & Integration Process (Strategic Initiative #4). This proposed process was developed to leverage academic resources to enhance program quality, expand access, and better serve our students throughout the state.

I invite you to review the documents. The plan will then be reviewed by our council of university presidents and later by the full Board of Trustees at the July 21, 2014, board meeting in Bangor.
